company is Matti Raudjärv (PhD):
Matti Raudjärv was born on 5 August 1949 at Rakvere
(Estonia). Since 1965 he has lived in the Pirita-Kose District
of Tallinn.
Education: An important part of education
was acquired in the Rakvere Secondary School No. 1 (the
current Rakvere Gymnasium). In 1974 he graduated from the
Faculty of Economics of the Tallinn University of Technology
(TUT, former Tallinn Polytechnical Institute) with the diploma
of an economic engineer.
PhD (Candidate of Economics) since 1982 (subject of thesis:
Regional and Economic Aspects of Different Sectors of National
Economy and Industrial Enterprises). Since 1989 the academic
position of a senior researcher and since 1991, Associate
Professor of Economics in National Economy.
Further training acquired: From 1989 until
now he has repeatedly acquired further training in different
fields of economic policy in several universities of the
German Federal Republic (Kiel, Frankfurt am Main, Osnabrück,
Greifswald, etc.), also in the Kiel Institute for the World
Economy. He has acquired further training in other fields
of economics in further training centres of Germany (in
Schleswig-Holstein Business Academy in Kiel – in the
field of marketing; in the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Academy
in Neubergstadt – in issues related to local government)
and in Austria in the Vienna University of Economics and
Business Administration (economics of small and medium-sized
enterprises).
In 1997–1999 he studied at forestry courses organised
for private forest owners by the State Forest Management
Centre. In 1998 he acquired the project management and development
training provided by Project Institute Finland.
Work experience since 1965: jobs in enterprises
(gardening, services, industry, consultations and project
activities, etc.) as a worker, foreman, engineer-planner,
head of department and head of company, from 1978–1984
in Estonian research institutes and from 1984–1987
in Mainor as a head of department. Training and business
consultant.
Work experience in the system of higher education
since 1975: Faculty of Economics of the Tallinn
University of Technology, Faculty of Economics and Business
Administration of the University of Tartu, Pärnu College
of the University of Tartu, in different periods also in
parallel in certain Estonian private institutions of higher
education.
Has been employed as an adjunct lecturer, senior researcher,
lead researcher, docent and professor. Vice Dean of the
Faculty of Economics of the Tallinn University of Technology
in 1990–1994. Has organised the SME speciality in
the Faculty of Economics of the Tallinn University of Technology
(1991). In 1992, founder (in the Tallinn University of Technology)
of the first Chair of Economic Policy created after Estonia
regained its independence, its first Holder of the Chair
and Professor (1992–1997). Since 1996 he has been
employed in addition by the Faculty of Economics and Business
Administration of the University of Tartu, and since 1999
periodically and since 2002 as a permanent member of the
staff also in the Pärnu College of the University of
Tartu.
Subjects taught at the university:
He has taught Business Administration and is currently teaching
mainly different subjects of economic policy, such as Basics
of Economic Policy, Regional and Local Government Policy,
Environmental Policy, etc.
Publications: author of more than 200 research
publications (incl. 20 books and booklets). More than 50
works have been published in Russian, German and English
outside Estonia. Editor of several research publications,
organiser and main organiser of (also international) research
forums.
Social activities:
Initiator and contributor to the activities of the Pirita
Gymnasium of Economics (1993-1996).
Elected as Vice-President of the European Council for Small
Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB) (1994–1999).
Member of the three first administrative councils of the
Pirita District of Tallinn (1992–1999). Founder-member
of the Estonian Economic Association and of the German DAAD-Alumni
in Estonia. Founder-member of the Ambla Forest Cooperative.
Reinitiated the creation and installation
of the sculpture "Sundial" to mark the site of
the University of Tartu in the 17th-18th century (sculptor
Hannes Starkopf) (the University of Tartu was in Pärnu
in 1699–1710). Also organised the financing of the
sculpture. The sculpture was opened in Pärnu on 8 September
2004 and it is on the lawn in front of the Pärnu College
of the University of Tartu at Ringi 35.
